Rakuten Suggests Developing NFT With Latest Job Ad

Japanese e-commerce firm Rakuten appears to be expanding its blockchain efforts, with a job advertisement hinting at a potential non-fungible token ( NFT ) firm.

Japanese e-commerce giant Rakuten may be working on something related to NFTs, according to a job posting on Linkedin. The company is looking for a business development partner for its Rakuten Blockchain Lab, which focuses on concepts like security tokens and NFTs.

The person in question will work out of the Tokyo office and will co-operate with the engineering group in Belfast. At a high level, he or she is expected to plan to lead a project, although the job posting does not offer many details about the particular company. The associate will also work to drive partnerships, marketing research, and technology trends.

The position is ideally intended for individuals with a technical or business background, with additional knowledge of the Rakuten Group itself. The Rakuten Blockchain Lab is building a broader “Rakuten Blockchain Platform” for internal use. This could be an entry point for more services.

In describing the rationale for this position and overall commitment, Rakuten refers to security tokens, NFTs, central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) and the supply chain sector. It is with the growth and expansion of these fields that Rakuten is working on new blockchain projects. The trend seems to be gaining traction as newcomers like the Shopify eCommerce plugin also offer NFT solutions.

Rakuten explores various other crypto integrations

Rakuten, often referred to as the Japanese Amazon, has been excited about cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology for many years. The company launched its exchange in 2019, which received significant press coverage. It also allows users to redeem Rakuten Points for Chiliz Sports Token.

Cryptocurrencies are popular in Japan, even though the country’s financial regulator is paying much more attention to the market. The regulation was by no means a crackdown, even if exchanges have to watch their pace from now on. This is no different from other countries, whose respective authorities have cracked down on the trade.

It will be interesting to see how much more Rakuten will be applied in the crypto space. Some of the ideas presented in the job posting are much more complicated than previous developments. It will point out that Rakuten is moving towards blockchain industry-based services and features.

This, in turn, could lead to a huge expansion in Japan, introducing new blockchain-based features to users. It could also encourage other companies to do the same.
